Reel in Success: 8 Compelling Reasons to Boost Your Small Business with Reels

Ready to take your small business to the next level? Imagine capturing your audience's attention in seconds and leaving a lasting impression. It's time to dive into the world of Reels – a game-changer in social media strategy. In this blog post, we unveil the top 8 reasons why Reels should be an integral part of your small business's digital arsenal.

First, let's answer the question I know a lot of you have… What are Reels, and why should you care? Reels on platforms like Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are short-form, engaging videos that resonate with your audience. The visual appeal of Reels is unmatched, making it an ideal tool for capturing attention in today's fast-scrolling world. Our attention spans are so short now, so the days of long-form videos are over. This is a good thing though for small businesses. We don't have time or the budget for over produced videos that we used to post on social media. Reels are fast to make and much more cost effective, and if you can master them yourself, absolutely FREE!

I will admit, I was skeptical at first.  I thought that you had to be young and ready to dance to make TikTok videos, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I started watching TikToks and Reels a few years ago and noticed that I don't even see dance videos or young people on my feed.  I quickly realized that these platforms have a very smart algorithm that only shows you things you are interested in. As a marketing professional, I was pumped, because that meant that if I used this for my business, I was going to have a direct link to my exact target audience. WHAT?

I spent the next 6 months trying to figure out how to make these videos for my business without having to record myself and especially my voice. Ughh! I toyed around with lots of different trends and got some good engagement, but not great. I asked myself what made me engage with business social media accounts on Instagram and why I decided to follow some but not others. Finally, I realized that I needed to create a series of videos that educated people. They would learn, engage, save posts and follow for more. And BOOM! I found my content and it's all gone up from there. Our videos teaching people hacks for Canva have grown substantially. We get new followers every single day and new clients that have nothing to do with Canva, but see our other content about website design, email marketing and social media consulting/management.  It's working!

At the end of the day, we just focus on putting out content on Reels/TikTok that are entertaining, educational, and engaging. The one thing we try and stay away from in our Reels is being too promotional as you get better results and more leads focusing on the emotional first and foremost.

If I haven't sold you on taking a chance on Reels for your small business social media strategy, here are 8 excellent reasons to consider -

  1. Increased Visibility and Reach:

    • They show your videos to everyone, not just your followers, so your content can be seen by a wider audience, increasing your brand's reach.

    • Reels leverage platform algorithms to prioritize engaging content, boosting your small business's visibility. And like I said about the algorithm before, your videos are being shown to your target audience as they are only seeing things they are interested in.

  2. Engaging Storytelling in Seconds:

    • Most Reels are just 15 seconds and provide an opportunity for concise and impactful storytelling. Remember, short attention spans!

    • Businesses can share their narrative, showcase products, and connect with the audience emotionally in a brief timeframe.

  3. Algorithmic Advantage:

    • Social media platforms reward the use of new features, and Reels are no exception. Leveraging Reels can enhance your content's performance in algorithms.

    • Appearing on users' main feeds, Reels capture attention quickly, increasing the likelihood of user interaction.

  4. Showcasing Creativity and Personality:

    • Reels allow small businesses to express creativity, share personality, and stand out from competitors. We do business with people we know, like and trust. This is the best opportunity we have to show people why they should do all three. There are a lot of people who do what you do, give them a reason to choose you over the next business with no personality.

    • Behind-the-scenes footage, product demonstrations, and creative edits give your audience a glimpse into your brand's uniqueness.

  5. Audience Engagement and Interaction:

    • Incorporating interactive elements like polls, questions, and challenges in Reels encourages audience participation.

    • Increased engagement metrics, such as likes, comments, and shares, contribute to a thriving online community around your brand.

  6. Versatile Content Formats:

    • From educational tutorials to entertaining content, Reels support a variety of content formats.

    • Businesses can experiment with different styles, keeping the audience engaged and eager for more.

  7. Analytics for Informed Decision-Making:

    • Social media platforms provide analytics for Reels, offering insights into performance metrics.

    • Small businesses can analyze data to understand audience behavior, tailor future content, and refine their social media strategy.

  8. Staying Relevant and Trendy:

    • Incorporating Reels demonstrates your business's adaptability and commitment to staying current.

    • Capitalizing on trending challenges and music adds a trendy and dynamic element to your brand, appealing to younger demographics.
